Last weekend.... the weekend of the 31st, my husband spend the whole weekend cleaning out my machine due to the fact that a nasty little "trojan" had gotten in. My husband kept asking me where I had been on the internet, and I said "no where but to CC"... so he started digging into my computer and told me that I had contracted a virus from CC.

He completely wiped the whole system out and built it back from scratch. I argued with him and told him that CC was a very protected site. It wound up being a huge debate with me and him... well to prove his point, after he had rebuilt everything, he told me to pull up the CC site... sure enough... the trojan popped right back into my machine.

I contacted Heath immediately and told him what had happened.

Heath PM'd me back and said there was no way that could have happened due to the fact that CC is very protected...

Now this.... My husband is not very happy with me cause it takes him 2 days to get my computer straightened out. I work all of my business from my computer....

Just be careful friends... until they can get this all worked out....

Whether there is a "way" or not, it happened to me too yesterday...I pulled up CC, an ad was trying to load up, the page froze and my virus alert popped up saying that it had detected a trojan. icon_sad.gif

This has actually been going on for a few weeks now... The whole reason my husband had to rebuild my machine was because of the trojan.... it evaded everything... and then when I went to CC... it happened again... so I KNEW it HAD to come from CC. That's why I sent Heath the PM... but Heath was firm in the fact that he didn't believe it was coming from CC... But now, maybe he believes it...

My husband is furious that I'm back on CC for now... He said he's not looking forward to his "Father's Day" weekend... it will be spent rebuilding my computer... OOPSIE!...

I got the trojan too - from CC.

Trojans can come from one of the ads on the site - which of course isn't CC's fault, but they still need to look into it, especially if more people have the problem.

Ditto, on the phishing site warning. I closed out the page, tried different ways to bring up CC.
I also did the report thing of reporting I don't believe CC is a phishing site.
I also knew this site would be up and down for maintainence...thought that might have something to do with the strange notice.
Did a virus scan on my pc, no virus thank God.
I will never understand the idiot hackers that get their jollies by corrupting sites and computers!

I got the Halifax website and "page not found" errors too. Glad to be on today. Don't know about the trojan, maybe that's why my computer's been running so slow...

I have SpyBot loaded on my computer. Every time I switch pages on CC It picks up something. I'm assuming some sort of spyware.

My husband said there were actually two different types of things going on.... I'm not very knowledgeable of computer lingo... I just understand the red face... HA... and believe me... when he has to sit down for two days to rebuild this computer.... the face gets red... HA

He said there was a trojan/spyware and what's happening, is it had locked on to the email... It's sending out viagra emails from my email... so he had to lock down my outlook express. So you might want to look into your email. What it did was turn off the "save sent items" box and you never know that your email is sending out all these emails. He tried to track it down coming in from another angle, and it kept renaming itself and never would get out until he completely stripped down the system... now he's got to do it again... I don't know how many people I've sent viagra emails to... Lord have mercy...

But that's what's going on here... and all I know is it invaded my system when I logged on to CC... twice now it's happened...

Oh, by the way... this trojan/spyware will not show up with a regular virus scan... these folks that write these things now are really starting to perfect their devious techniques...

This thing lodges into your program system and flies stealth with the virus software....

I fully believe that Heath was completely truthful when he told me that he didn't believe I had picked that up from CC.... but I believe now he knows that it is a fact.... I also know that, yes, it could have come from a advertiser on CC... but all of us that own websites know that it is our responsibility to keep our sites as clean as we can... I'm sure that Heath is working diligently on that right now....

I have to admit that I was a bit surprised that there was no announcement made yesterday. I didn't see any sticky files, or anything, about it. I guess I would have thought they would have issued an official warning to not give any info to that site.

Anyone else surprised by this?

Exactly... I thought I was the only one having those thoughts... I've also noticed something else... and maybe it's just me, but when you open up CC and see this window that says the server is down... my husband laughs everytime that happens due to the fact that he said if the server was down you wouldn't even be getting the first page... you would get that "Page Unavailable" to pop up... I asked Heath about that also, but he never commented on that... ... so... I don't know what's been going on.

I think there should be some kind of posting to let us know what's going on... especially since so many of us are experiencing the same thing. I just think it would show consideration to the members.

I got the Halifax page too!!

I believe it was Sunday when I tried logging onto CC and my Norton Antivirus kept closing down the home page (stated that it was a fraudulent page).

It am not sure if it would work but I definitely have to run my Norton's when I get home from work later.

I didnt get it untill just now reading this thread. I guess I am also victim to it (the virus and of course a pissed off husband) My husband was blaming me..... I told him to stuff it. But I guess I will have to apoligise.

Hopefully it gets fixed !!!!!! I love CC

mamajan-I think they put that page there as a bookmark. Not to "fool" us, but to keep the traffic down on the site so that they can get the new version released or whatever. It's just one of those under construction pages. icon_smile.gif

My new software will not let me go to a site that has bad things going on.
I get this BIG message on screen saying MALICIOUS SPY WARE DETECTED!!! Now I never got that message for CC, but yesterday was the first time I have been able to get here since Friday of last week...

I did a system check yesterday and not one thing came up... Because I go to other very large sites and get emails that have been forwarded XXX amount of times, not to mention all those spam advertisements, I clean and check my computer twice a week.

I've been having so many issues with CC lately, it's crazy! I too got the phishing and Hillax page yesterday, several times. Another thing that's been annoying as all get out, when I do come here the page won't load fully. I'll get all the ads, most of the posts, but the bottom of the pages won't be there. If I refresh the page, I get an error. I hope all the bugs are worked out soon! I miss CC!!

I had the same problem...and that web site put a worm on my PC (Trendmicro immediately grabbed it and quaranteed it) To me it looked like someone hacked CC's DNS lookup and redirected us to that page. I was only able to get here by cleaning out all my cookies and history..

Ugh...and I thought it was only me.

For 2 days, I got nothing but a redirect to the Halifax website by clicking on my bookmarked page. So I had to type in the (www) befroe the domain name . com. It worked...for a while. So I asked my DH who is a computer genius thumbs_up.gif why this was happening.

He says that by typing in the (www) domain name . com into your browser bar, it will link you to the page directly from your ISP. If there is a Phisher attached to CC's ISP, by means of the ads (which by the way are always full of spyware/adware, and sometimes the originators of those ads dont know they have been hacked into), typing the address into your DNS browser bar, just gives it full access to your ISP...I know...loads of computer lingo. DH says, until you can clear out the bug (trojan or other worm that has fed itself into your system) always type just the site name, - the www, into the search bar. This does make a difference.

Soooooooooo....just becareful. It may not be heaths fault, and even the fault of those who advertise on the site, but computers are NOT 100% hack proof, even the most protected servers are vulnerable.

Hope this helps...or at least shines a light on whats been happening.

Ditto to everything, my MAC completely froze and crashed, now I need to check on it when I get home today that is one of my most prized positions!I don't know how a Trojan can effect a Mac computer, but I had to force a shut down, and then I was OK. Now I'm biting my fingers! icon_sad.gif

It's one thing to have a phishing situation... but then it's another to have a trojan/spyware issue...

That opens up a whole new situation...

I just had the motherboard replaced on my computer a couple of weeks ago and had memory added to it to make it run faster. It has been so slow for the past week! After reading this forum I bought a spyware program and had it scan my computer and it was infected with 5 different trojans and a lot of tracking cookies. I had it fix the errors and it seems to be running MUCH better now. I was ready to call the people that fixed my computer and let them have it!

The key is to make sure that they're not just "quarantined"... that doesn't solve the problem...

You want to make sure they are "removed"... That was one of the things my husband told me about the trojan/spyware. It was attaching itself to so many aspects of the hard drive that it couldn't be removed... just quarantined... so that means it's still there.. Kindof like mold... if it dries out, there's nothing to worry about, but the second it gets any kind of moisture, then WHAM you're hit with the mold again... that's the way this trojan is acting.

It will sit there for an uncertain amount of time, and then all of a sudden it starts attacking... and mainly the emails.

There is no telling how many "viagra" emails I've sent to people... Oh Lord have mercy!

My windows mail froze up and we can't use it. We switched it to Outlook Express, and now we're starting t ohave problems with it not sending. Messages just sit in the outbox, so nothing works. I wonder if this could be related to this trojan? How do you find out if your computer has it?

I'm having a different type of problem with CC. I open it, and after a few minutes, it either says not responding, and IE restarts itself, or I close the net (or think I do!) and when I come back to the computer, CC is opened in like 300 different windows, and still opening! It will be the last page of CC I was on and thought I closed! The only way to stop it is to turn the machine off manually! CC is the ONLY place we have this happen! I talked to a friend yesterday who used to frequent CC, and she said she had the same problem! Any idea how to stop this, or what's causing it?
