I am wanting to cover a cake with chocolate clay, and I want to do all the decorations out of clay as well, do I color it before or after I make it? This will be my first try at chocolate clay, so I figure who would know best than CC'er's? Thanks in advance, Veronica

I just colored chocolate clay for the first time last week. I did it after it was made and kneaded in the color just like I do with fondant. Be sure to use candy colors or mix gel color with shorting. I made that mistake once. Good luck! I hope this helps.

After the chocolate has melted..OR you can color while you knead. This one here i colored right after I melted the candy melts..

You cannot use gel colors from Americolor or Wilton, it has to be candy coloring? Is there a difference? If not what company makes candy coloring? Also where can I buy it? Thanks so much.

All I use for coloring is the same one I always use for Fondant.. The Wiltons Coloring gel... there is really no difference..
