What is the equivalent in egg whites? Per Tablespoon?

Also, before adding to an icing, do they have to be whipped. I use Toba's Buttercream Icing and the meringue powder is always added after the ps is added, should I add it with the wet ingredients?? Plus, do I need to be worried about salmonella? Ack....maybe I should drive to walmart for meringue powdericon_sad.gif
