A big thank you to Karateka and stepOnmi for their help in my questions being answered. It took me about 9 hours to decorate before I was finally satisfied with the outcome. My son couldn't believe it when he saw it (he's 33) and all the others at the party at first INSISTED it was a real steak, not even believing it until it was cut; I was really proud as this was the first, real decorated cake I've ever made. But, as stated earlier, I have done a few watercolors and so have a little artistic sense. The reaction of everyone was worth every minute I put into it. I used, as suggested, a buttercream underneath the fondant (MMF) and then made white choc. modeling clay for the bone, fat around the perimeter and all the little marbeling pieces within the meat. The cake was the WASC. All of the recipes came from here - a great source for info and encouragement! Here's a pic.

HA! I LOVE IT!! Awesome work. No wonder they questioned it being real. The label was great idea too. Good thing they didn't throw it on the grill icon_smile.gif!

Thank you for the compliments! The label was from a local, large grocery chain that I use often: Ralphs - in California. I went to the meat dept., explained that I needed a porterhouse steak label, could they make it for about a $50 price tag and they were happy to oblige! It certainly adds to the authentic look, no question.
