First time poster, you guys are awesome first of all!!!

I decided for my daughters' girl scout troop we'd have a cake auction fundraiser. Well, problem is I've given away so many ideas of my own, I'm left with only a few, lol.

My daughter is going to do a pizza cake, but I want to do one (in secret of course) that really blows them all away!!! The idea of working with the fondant scares me, lol. Is there a "cheat" way to get that look without actually using it? I've done the melted icing thing in the past whcih comes out ok but it's hard to get an even look with that.

Any ideas, suggestions, whatever are appreciated, thanks!!

Use a crusting buttercream and the Melvira Method.

Or try the Viva method. Use Viva paper towels, and your hand, to smooth the icing. Either of these will give a faux fondant finish to your cake. If you have time and a little spare $$ on hand, I highly recommend ordering Perfecting the Art of Buttercream by Sugarshack!
