should i use icing or frosting
the best icing or frosting recipe
the type of filling to use
the best way to stack cake on each other
the best tier cake stand to use, so that the cake won't collapse or fall.
just tell me all i need to know.
I'm new, too, so I don't know much about everything. However, I have spent some time looking at the different parts of this board, and all the questions you asked have been answered in quite a few previous posts or articles/recipes. (I myself was wondering about many of those things.)

Well, first you need to find out what kind of cake flavors they want,
icing they want, buttercream or fondant,
fillings to compliment the cake
how many ppl they will be feeding,
do they want the cake stacked or pillar style
is the cake going to be round, square, or some other shape?
Once you know all of that then you'll have a starting point
