Good morning Cake Central!!! Beautiful day to kick off the Cake Central Throwdowns . If you don't know me my name is Christi ..These two contestants are also VERY nice people.. and I have had great fun chatting and working with them!!! It's a great honor to announce their TD ..

Sugar_Plum_Fairy VS. Marthajo1

Theme: OCEAN

Rules are simple.. judge which one you like the best ..

Make sure you mark the poll with your vote!!!

Critiques are welcome here and so are the very sweet comments that we know come out of all of you great CCers

Please note the voting will end next Saturday at 10 am cst icon_smile.gif

Here we go..

Description for contestant 1 :

The lighthouse is made from mostly molded RKT (bottom cylindrical shape and top "cap"). It's covered in both fondant (light color) and red gp and RI. The sea gulls are made from gp, as are the dolphins (Atlantic White-sided dolphins), whale's tale, and light in the lighthouse (the lens of the light is an edible sugar jewel which unfortunately dulled and became a bit opaque and since it's placed in a black cylinder, is unable to really be seen). Oh, and the 'glass' around the lighthouse are gelatin sheets. The red "cage" is made of gp (vertical bars) and RI (horizontal bars) while the white and red "cage" around the light is white gp with royal piped over.
The fish are (mold) molded from fondant and are painted as accurately as possible and the anemones are hand-molded fondant. All shells and coral are made from white candy melts and are hand dusted as accurately as possible. The seaweed is royal icing. Both cakes are covered in BC and fondant and the comma cake is then piped with a grass tip in BC.
The sand at the shore is light brown sugar and Girl Scout shortbread cookie, while the sand at the bottom of the ocean is dark brown sugar with a bit of turbinado sugar, too.

Contestant # 2 description : Carved 9x10 Chocolate cake with strawberry filling. Covered in BC with Fondant details (blue). Sunscreen bottle Cake Balls covered in Fondant. Sunscreen BC. Sunglasses and lei - gumpaste. Beach towel is fondant

Totally creative.. I love them both. The fish in #1 are so detailed and beautiful, and that lighthouse is incredible.. I love all the realistic colors too. #2 is so realistic looking, like you could just pick up that bag and head to the beach.. the contents are very detailed and cleanly executed. Both cakes are worthy entries... again.. very hard to choose... thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

hummm decissions decissions decissions. I love the simplicity of the beach bag, but I also love all the detail of the light house. After all tof the other cakes I believe this will be the hardest one to decide.
