Number 6 Without Cake Pan

dear members,

how can i do number 6 without a cake pan. i need to do a car race track cake for a 6 year old boy. i've browsed thru the net but most of the cakes are with the image 8.
care to share any tips please or if there if there is any link....would really appreciate it.

When I made the #3 (in my pics). I used a printout of a font I liked in Word or Powerpoint.

After I baked the cake I layed the template on the cake and cut it out. It worked like a charm and I ended up with the font that I wanted.

If you decide to do it that way and have any questions let me know.

what about the horseshoe (rainbow) pan, then cut and move around.

lavida, thanks for the tip. sorry, maybe i should have been more clear on what i wanted to do. i intend to bake a big rectangle cake and do the No. 6 imprint (as the racetrack) on the cake. let's say i do as you have mentioned, after i've cutout the No. 6 from the computer, how do i get the 6 on the cake. so sorry if this is confusing.

I layed the printout directly on the retangular cake, held it down with one hand and carved around it with the other.
