I am making my first 14 inch cake tonight and I was wondering how many boxes of cake mix it will take and the baking time? Any and all advise would be appriciated!

As I remember that will need 2 mixes for each layer. Not sure if you are going to make it 4" tall or noticon_smile.gif

Hi there!

How many boxes of cake mix depends on what brand of mix you are using. When I made my first wedding cake this past October, my aunt ,a retired decorator, told me to use two boxes of mix for each 14 in. round layer (pillsbury). The layers were no where near tall enough. I had to go back to the store and purchase more mix, this time using 2 1/2 boxes of pillsbury per layer. Im not sure what mix you are planning on using. Depending on what mix you are using 2 may be enough for each layer but I know for certain with Pillsbury it is not. Just want to spare you the headache I had.
