I got a request for a cake that is made with real vanilla beans and buttercream made the same way. If any body has a recipe I would greatly appreciate it! icon_smile.gif

Are you looking for scratch or doctored cake mix recipes?

The WASC cake is a very reliable doctored cake mix recipe. Here's the expanded flavors version:

Original WASC cake recipe:

Whichever you use, substituting vanilla bean paste for some/all of the flavoring will satisfy your customer's request.

Info on vanilla bean paste:

Overview of different frostings by type:

As for the frosting recipe, are you looking for an American b/c?

indydebi has one that uses the new Crisco:

JanH, thank you so much for the information. I like doctored cake mixes but have not yet tried the WASC. I would like to try it this week. I was hoping to use real vanilla beans but i have never heard of vanilla bean paste it sound like a good substitute. I have read several of your posts and you always give such good information. Thanks for the help! icon_smile.gif

You're very welcome, bakerliz, it was my pleasure. icon_smile.gif

The only way I know to use real vanilla beans is either to immerse them in granulated or powdered sugar so the flavor is transferred, or to immerse them in vodka to make your own extract.....

Or you can split the beans, and scrape the seeds to use.

Don't know how practical any of these uses are, as vanilla beans are quite expensive. And frankly I wouldn't know a good one from a bad one. tapedshut.gif
