Is Sweetex really that much better than Crisco? I can't find it anywhere locally and the shipping charges for this stuff are insane! Has anyone out there used/ tried both and can tell the difference? Also, is there anyone out there in the Austin, TX hood that knows where to get Sweetex?
Sweetex is a high-ratio shortening and it does make a difference in the finished icing.
You may be able to find it locally (or a similar brand) at a restaurant supply store, but usually in 50 pound containers.
