I'm working on a graduation cake for a volleyball player. Her name is Lisa, and I'm going to make the dot on top of the I a volleyball. The cake is 2 tiered fondant (8 and 6 round), and the volleyball is going to be fondant. The cake board is going to have a volleyball net on it, and I want to make it look like the ball (I dot) has flown into the cake (over the net) and gotten stuck there.

I know what it would look like if the ball were busting out of the cake, but can't decide how to get the effect that I want, with it going INTO the cake. I'm sure this has been done plenty of times - anyone have ideas? Thanks!

maybe have the fondant where the ball hits peeled back all the way down to the cake so it looks like it splattered icing. Think how it would splatter had the ball hit a mud hole....?
