Has anyone added chocolate to Sam's icing to make a chocolate buttercream? How did it turn out? Would you use a bitter sweet or dark chocolate... their icing is so sweet.

I've added cocoa powder and some melted semi sweet to it and the result was a really yummy chocolate icing not too too sweet either because of the bitterness of the cocoa powder. Here are two cakes where I did that. Oh and the cocoa powder makes the icing crust SUPER DUPER well too....more quickly than normal.

Thank you so much! Your cakes look soooooo yummy!
So I would just add cocoa powder to taste? and then add some melted chocolate.
Well.... if my cakes iced with the "Sam's" chocolate buttercream look as half as good as your cakes I will be happy!!!
I did not want to try it and end up with a big pile of brown glob!
Cheers,

If you need a lot you can also purchase the large buckets of chocoalte buttercream from Sam's (same size as their vanilla)

yeah, really I just added melted semi sweet chips for flavor and then really added the cocoa powder until I had the color I was after LOL not very scientific and of course dipped a spoon in here and there to taste and make sure it tasted good!
