Can anyone help me try to figure out how to do the base for this cake?

My assumption is a sculpted styrofoam, but unless the rest of the cake is styrofoam as well, I don't think it would be sturdy enough. How would you do this for a real cake?

TIA!

That cake was done by Diane Simmons and I'm sure she'd be happy to answer any questions abou it. She now owns a cake shop in Michigan:
Cake Connection, Store hours: M-F 9:00 am ~ 5:30 pm, (517) 990-0880.
You can e-mail her from a link on her site: cakeconnection.com

I don't see a reason why the base can't be done in cake. As long as the supports are in place properly it's definitely doable.

Why do you think styro base would not be sturdy enough? One could stand on styro....it certainly will hold up a cakeicon_smile.gif
But, do talk to Dianne....she is super niceicon_smile.gif
