I am very new to cake decorating, and have only used fondant one time on a cake for my wilton about 3 months ago,and to make roses for class.
My question is, when you want to make (people)figures, whats best to use, fondant or gumpaste?Whats the difference between the two? Like I said,Ive only used fondant with tylose mixed with it. I did try making baby figures with fondant, which came out ok,but wondered if I should be practicing with gumpaste instead?

Well, I use gumpaste to make my figures. As you said you can make it by adding tylose/CMC to the fondant. The other way is to use 50/50 of Fondant and Gumpaste( I've read that lots members use this ).

Gumpaste is more pliable and give you the time to get exactly what you want and then when its dry, it's dry realy hard.
