Hi everyone,
I posted a picture of a Winnie the Pooh cake called "Peek a Pooh" saturday evening. I got so many requests for info on this cake and to see more pictures of it, that I decided it might be most helpful to just post a topic on it. So here we go... (haha):

The basic design for the cake is based on the "Peek a Pooh" line of nursery bedding, and more specifically the wall border. I got inspiration from several CC member's wonderful cakes who had used the border. I think the ones I saw were all done in either RI or Buttercream. Below is a photo of the actual border. I had to tweak the design a little bit because some of the characters faces were cut off a little at the bottom of the cake.

All the faces are made from wilton's premade fondant. I started with pooh bear, and completed each face and placed it on the cake with before starting the next one. I had printed the nursery border and used that as a general reference as I was making each face. I suppose that you could make a template if you enlarged the photo, but I did not do that. For all but the pooh, I used a few colors for the face. You will want to layer, for example, cut out the entire tigger face in orange then add light yellow, then the big pink nose. That way it gives it a little depth also. After all the colors are in place, use a black food writer to outline the entire thing. Then cut little circles for paws, with a little slice off the bottom to make it lay flat and outline in black.

I wish I had a better way to explain how to do this, other than I just looked at the picture and then repeated it with fondant. (I am a very visual person, if I can see something I can almost always replicate, whereas if I have to think it up just in my head it is much more difficult.) Please let me know if I need to clear things up or expand on my directions.

Take Care and Happy Baking,
Breanna

VERY CUTE!!! What a wonderful idea! I love it when someone can take a plain picture or wallpaper and transform it into a beautiful edible, as my husband calls them.

may i ask how big the tiers are and how tall?

brea1026 Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile

Sure! The tiers were 6" and 9". I think both were about 3 3/4 inches tall (I remember because I only had to cut a tiny bit off of my 4" dowels).

I also forgot to mention that I covered the cake in pink mmf. I would to see this cake done in boy colors too! Too bad I did pooh for my 1st son or I would ask my friend to make this in blue for my son that is due August 20th!

Hope that helps!
