I need help on buying cake mixes. I usually make my cakes from scratch and cover with fondant. It's not as moist as I like it to be. I bought cake mix from smart and final once, but it was very heavy and oily. Is there a place to buy good quality mixes or am I doing something wrong? I always use cake wash, but it doesn't help. i am afraid to use more thinking the cake will be like a mud.
Please help I need advise

Have you tried a doctored mix or just per the box directions?
