i opened my big mouth and offered to do a baby shower cake...it has been so long since i've done one that i thought i could do it and be ready for pick-up at 10am...my friend told me that i could do either a cake or cupcakes (whichever one i was happy with) and i has planned to do a 2 tier gift box cake and i have already stripped the top tier of its fondant, replaced it with new fondant and it still looks like a donkey's *&%!! i have the other tier iced and sitting there staring at me...i am thinking of mixing up some batter, plunk it in the cupcake liners and decorate those.. please oh please any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

WOW - I'm sorry it's not working out for you. Since you can do what you want...and it's late...call it a night & just do some cupcakes! That's what I would do!

Do you know if it's a boy or girl? You could decorate accordingly (pink or blue). If not, just do yellows, greens, blues and pinks.

Most of all...get some sleep!

Good luck to you!

I'm sure you're being too hard on yourself... But if you're really not happy with it make cupcakes and while they bake, make some 'baby heads' and bodies (just 'sausages') then put yourself to bed. In the morning put the babys on the cupcakes and cover them with a fondant blanket. Doesn't have to be detailed at all and can be made quickly.

Other ideas: baby blocks on cupcakes, making the top of the cupcakes look like baby faces, make a flat pram on the top of each (cut a circle out of fondant and remove 1/4, add 2 smaller circles for wheels, pipe a handle)

Good luck whatever you decide!

ETA another idea....

I'm glad you went with the cupcakes! I know what it's like to do a last minute order & not be happy with the outcome - the worst part is the lack of sleep!

So did you like the outcome? Was everyone happy?! icon_smile.gif

I hate reading this disaster section but I keep going to it like a train wreck! Does anybody remember, before fondant, laying plastic wrap across a doll and decorating the plastic wrap with stars? Quick and looks just like a blanket. Good luck with your cupcakes and I'm sure you're being too hard on yourself. We tend to see all the little teeny tiny mistakes and blow them all up into major disasters. At least I do.
