a customer would like a quote for 3 3d cakes: fire truck, ambulance and police car.
each cake I'm estimating will use 2 1/4 sheets apiece for a total of 6 1/4's
butter cream frosting and probably some fondant accents
I have never made a 3d cake for a customer yet, is $210 too little for this order. too much.....?
I would think that $210 might be a bit cheap.
That seems low to me. That's a lot of cake, and many hours of your time, make sure you charge what you're worth!
what size you do you consider a 1/4 sheet cake?
I START my 3D cakes at $3.50/serving (2x2x2) for the cake I make (in this case take the serving size of 1 - 1/4 sheet cake and multiply it times 6)
In the end your serving price will come out anywhere between $5-$10 depending on how much you carve off.
Now I only use the $3.50/serving on MY paperwork but on the customers invoice I take the total charge divide by the actual servings they are getting and then give them a price/serving based off that math.
I am doing a boot cake.. 1 boot.. to feed 25 people for 65.00 ... and I know I am undercharging.. so YES you are undercharging..
we all need to be smacked LOL
I wouldn't look at it in terms of how many sheet cakes, because sheet cakes are totally differen than 3D cakes....waaaaaaay more time involved.
I start my 3D cakes at $100 no matter what size...
I would think that based off of the 3 different cakes that you are doing that this would be a LARGE order...what SIZE sheet cakes are you going to carve from?
I price based off of servings but a little differently than everyone else. Depending on the size of the cake...meaning how many it's going to feed...I price a $50 base fee for under 20 servings...and $100 for 20-40 servings. And then I would do my regular price per serving on top of that. So...if it was 20 servings I would do $50+$40 (for the servings)=$90.
I would think that this order needs to be AT LEAST $300...this is a whole lot of work!
Good luck! Let us know what you decide!
