opened up Poke'Ball ? I want to use the sports ball pan, but was not sure how to prop it open so I can place a pokemon character in the middle. Will a dowel rod support this? Or would it be better to carve it out?

How do you mean? Cracked open? I would just make a ball and cut a wedge out.

Depending on how much cake you need... I would make the base of the ball cake and to "top" part of the ball out of Rice Krispy treats molded in the sports ball pan. Cover with icing or fondant the same as the cake.

So the top isn't too heavy and can be propped open... does that help?

then you can use the dowels to hold it open... or have the top of the ball leaning against the bottom part of the cake like its been knocked off.

Have not made one before, but I think I would try putting the top half on a cake board and use several dowel rods positioned behind the character so they are hidden. Do you need the top half to be cake or could you use styrofoam? It would be lighter and easier to prop up with dowel rods. The lid of the cake in my avatar is made of styrofoam and the dowel rods are pushed into the lid so it wouldn't slide.

i just need a small cake, I like the idea of rice crispies and the syro foam idea. I was afraid of the heaviness on top part of ball.
Thanks for the ideas
