thank you so much for sharing, this looks so much easier then how I have tried (which does not work) thank
that is a method's collette peter's uses in one of her books!!!
thanks for taking the time to post it.
question...where do you get that cutting wheel??? did you cut all those strips at once???
I bought the cutting wheel from a local restaurant supply warehouse. I have seen them online in varying prices. This one was under $20. They are called a 5 (or 6) wheel pastry cutter. Before I got it, I always cut one strip at a time. No biggy, it is not that hard to do it either way.
I had no idea Colette Peters did them this way. I learned it from another decorator I knew a few years ago.
I did forget to add, if you want to texturize the bow, do it BEFORE you cut it into strips as the extra pressure will distort the strips.
Excellent! thanks for the tip! I'll make sure to print this off just in case there's another crash
You can just use water too.. it works. Just don't put too much or it'll be slippery. The same goes for the gum glue too.
I dry my loops on a wooden dowel.. you get less distortion that way.
Especially if you want to paint on some pearl or luster dust GRRR>... makes it impossible to paint on if wet LOL
I LOVE this tutorial... makes it much easier to do the bows without worrying about coloring the "glue" to hold all the loops..
Thank you sooo much for this tutorial once again!
Can't wait to try this! I detest having to mix up royal icing just to "glue" my bow together. I don't use a lot of RI decorations anyway.
Thanks,
susan
What a life saver you are. I have been needing something like this for a wedding cake.
you made it look so much easier...I haven't made a bow yet,but when I do I will be using this method!
Thanks!
Oh, thank you ! This makes the process sooo easy--never thought about toothpicks!
BTW, the cake is stunning!
andysprite, the gumpaste dries in a day but I like to give it 2. The more gumpaste, the faster it dries.. so if you did 75 % gumpaste, and rolled it thin, it would be ready in a few hours.
suzylynn, that is the reason that I use this method, I never have any royal icing hanging around, I tried the candy melt way and I was a loser at that. I tried putting them in a mound of fondant, that was stupid, so when I saw this method, I fell in love!
