Hello. I'm doing my first wedding cake in August. Yippee!

The couple has requested a cake that will serve 75 people, and with the color theme of black, white, and yellow. They would also like sunflowers incorporated into the cake design.

I was thinking maybe a basket weave design with sunflowers placed on top of the cake, with a black ribbon going across the bottom of each tier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michelle

Here's a link for a sunflower cake done in buttercream: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1204782

I used the leaf tip for the petals, and #133 (in dark chocolate) for the centers. I made them up about a day ahead of time, and they set up well enough to be moved easily into place with a spatula. I am sure gumpaste and fondant pros can help you with the other techniques! Sounds like a pretty cake... icon_smile.gif

The galleries are moving very slowly today -- if you go into my pix, I did a small sunflower basket cake where the sunflower was the entire top of the cake. I used a #70 leaf tip for the petals and a #18 tip for the center.
