Karen.. GrammaG is right ..that's Julie!
I love Tuesday toppers...Julie is also on Flickr
If you read through her posts you will understand why she has not been around for some time
thank you Grandma G for sharing the toppers website ....wow....how talented and helpful!!!! I'm so grateful for all the help that you all continue to give!!!
If you wanted to do something a little different you can also take a Bugle's and fill with ganache or frosting, stick it to a chocolate cookie and dip the whole thing in chocolate for a little witches hat!
GrandmaG - I looked at the link for the frosted cake and cookie website. It looks so good that I can't wait to read through all the posts. Thanks so much for sharing!
Yes, I knew she wasn't doing so well health wise, but was wondering is she had started up again. I was just looking through my folder of her things this morning and they are just adorable. I hope she is doing better.
What Holiday cupcakes is everyone making this year? If anyone wants to try the new recipe for the CCCC #16 here is the link.

Grandma G.....I was just thinking today about what I can make for a holiday cupcake. I was thinking more of Christmas though....ugghhhh......I'm getting ahead of the Thanksgiving, isn't it just awful!!! I just checked out your link---Fig Spice Cupcakes with Honey Cinnamon Buttercream---sounds wonderful. I may decide to try this one......thank you!!!!
Here in the USA, December 15 is National Cupcake Day.
How will you be celebrating this holiday?

Hey everyone, I just came across this thread.. I will do my best to answer questions here. I have been a professional baker for over 20 years, so I am well versed in technical baking as well as cake decorating. Feel free to private message me on any questions you have. I also have many posts on my site that may help you out in regards to everything cupcakes. CakeCentral is one of my favorite forum type sites to visit though. You can teach an old dog new tricks

Welcome to the site!
This is the thread that started the cupcake section of CC
It was said if there was enough interest shown in this thread, they would open a section.... and here we are!
Welcome !!
For those of us that were here from the start of this thread ..this is home for us )
Hi guys, have been lurking on this thread for about the last 3 weeks or so and am desperately trying to read as many pages as possible!! (taking some time, I can tell you!!)
I live over in the North East of Scotland and am absolutely LOVING all the recipes and hints that you guys are posting!! I've been an avid baker for years ever since I was a little girl baking with my Grandma and in the last couple of months I've been seriously baking for customers.
I eat, sleep, dream and breath cakes. Is that bad? Unfortunately there are ingredients that you guys use that I cannot get over here but I am trying my hardest to find things that work in the same way!!!
We are snowed in here today so i am making some Scottish Tablet to take to the shop that I volunteer in tomorrow (hopefully by then we will be able to get out!!).
Always room for more ....Welcome marzipan30!
Wondering what type ingredients you can't find there ?
We don't have Bettercreme here nor do they sell a huge amount of boxed cake mixes (think at the most there are 3 Betty Crocker ones!!). which is a huge pain as some of the doctored recipes that are posted I cant try but they all sound soooo yummy!!
Oh yep those are main ones (
Bettercream is also the same as ..I believe pastry pride....and I think under one more name that's real close to being the same as bettercream..
Would you maybe find it under a different name ?
Welcome Marzipan.......I live in the USA--northeast and can't find bettercreme....so don't feel alone!
Did everyone enjoy their holidays? As well as holiday baking? It's monday night and the snow blizzard is on here in the northeast. I'm looking forward to getting back to a "regular" schedule now that the holiday are over and that means trying to finish reading this HUGE cupcake post!
Fiddles, it's also called dawns velvatop, I get that at the bakery supply here!
I'm loving this thread, but I'm only on page 40. LOL....I've learned so many wonderful things, both in here and on this site in general. Thank you to all you dedicated CC'ers. Thought I'd post a pic of my cupcakes made with YummyMummy's recipe that I got from this thread. They are totally awesome. Thanks to the OP!!
Help with doctoring a cake mix & frosting.
I wanted to use juice concentrate, would it best to use a white cake mix or a yellow / butter cake mix ? What would be the good and bad of using each one ? & how much concentrate should i use ?
Also when making frosting / icing Whats the difference between using unsalted butter vs using shortening? Would it be best to mix combination of both ?
Thanks again!
If it was me I would use a white cake...when I add flavors I add them in place of the water in the recipe.
I still add the oil but replace the water with my new liquid of choice
It may be fine with a yellow cake as well but I like that you can really see the coloring when you add it to a white mix!
Not only tasty but pretty as well.
Hey! Long time no see! Is anyone still here? Fiddlesticks???
I just finished school for the year...wahoo!
And ready to get back into baking!!
What is the latest everyone is working on?
LOL....Funny how we always go back home to this thread!
Nice to see you again!
P.m. me and we can catch up )))
Welcome Back )
HOLY COW it's taken me a week to get through pg 90, so I apologize in advance if someone has asked this... I made the Double Chocolate Layer Cake (from Gourmet) last night and it had a weird floury texture to it. Everything else about my cupcakes was perfect, except for this after taste. Has anyone else had this problem with this recipe or clues as to what I could change?
I think I've only made it once and I don't remember why I didn't want to make it again but it obviously didn't work out for me either. Here is a link to the recipe with reviews. It looks like it works for a lot of other people though and I noticed it is one of the highest rated chocolate cakes here on CC.

I had no idea you could use tylose---would I be able to use gum-tex or glucose? I'm having difficulty finding tylose in my area....
thanks!
. Yes, I do it all the time.
