Well I decided to try my hand on a wedding cake for a friend as a wedding present. It was three tier car
Seriously? Or is this a late April Fool's post?
If you are serious ... well .... I'm in shock and not sure what to say.
Why would you have the cake on the floor, with a dog running around in the first place? If the dog's tongue didn't get to it, then the hair surely would have.
Maybe I have an 'incorrect' image in my head about the situation? If I do please correct me ... please!
The cake was in a big box and I have a little dog,so I did'nt even think she could get it.But I guess she proved me wrong. She is a poodle schnauzer mix and is hypoallergenic so she does not shed.
Oh my goodness! So what did you do......
I noticed that the original poster removed most of the post since it was first posted so I guess it really isn't an April Fools joke. I think it is absolutely disgusting... Things like this make me realize that you really have to question whose kitchen you can trust.
It makes me nauseous thinking that wedding guests ate cake that was licked over by a dog. Of course the couple would have been devastated and angry, but I'm sure they would be ill if they knew what happened...
We all learn from our mistakes. No more cakes on the floor. My dog is not allowed near the kitchen when I'm in cake decorating mode.
I have to agree it's definately unsettling to think about an entire wedding party consuming this. I can understand the panic and wanting to fix it, but the fact no one was told tells me someone knew it was unsanitary (to say the least).
I keep thinking about how much dogs like to lick thier..... ummm, 'cake balls' . I guess this little guy has a more refined taste -
Well, as posted earlier hopefully it's a lesson learned. Sometimes you have to accept your loss, and a dog licking the 1/4 of the icing off all 3 tiers is one of those times. As far as being a gift, it was certainly a nice thought ... but I believe after pooch got at it, it should have remained as a nice thought. Repairing the decorating doesn't repair the 'ick' factor.
So did you make a new cake........Buy one or what?
Wait, I'm lost here. Looks like most of the original post was erased. the dog licked the cake, and it was still served and eaten? This can't be for real.
i hope a new cake was made...
Nope, that's shy the shock and 'ick' reactions. The original post said something like this:
She was making the wedding cake as a gift for a friend. The cake was in a box, on the kitchen floor so she centre dowel it. She turned her back and when she returned the dog had licked 1/4 of the icing off all three tiers. She 'hiked' up her dress, dropped to her knees and fixed it liked it never happened. It also stated that she never told anyone about it, and they never noticed - I guess because the repair job was done so well.
I was shocked at the story, and I honestly did think it was a joke. Not sure the reaction she was expecting to get by posting on CC of all places. Anyway, I think she realized how disgusting and dishonest it really was, deleted most of the post and now just wants it to go away. I really hope it's sunk in how unsanitary and dangerous that could be. Count herself lucky no one consuming this had any pet allergies. Dog saliva (and whatever more was on it) is not something you would normally consider as part of a cake recipe, and probably wouldn't even consider it as a threat.
ya know, if that were found out here in NC, she'd be fined out the wazoo. Heck, I can't have a home cake business right now because I have animals in the house. I'd never in a million years serve a cake that had been licked by one of them!!!! eeeeewwwwww!!!!
This is so insane, I wish the friend she made the cake for is a member of CC. And came across the thread. That is more than disgusting. That is pure animalistic - good word?
This is inconsiderate and wicked, and, that is the simple reason why I do not have people do me favors. If I cannot afford it, I do not do it/ get it.
Wow - that really does churn my stomach. Yikes......
I would dump something if I saw an ant in it ---- a DOG licking it? NAST.....Y
well i am confused is this a second post?? it sounds like there was a first post....maybe i just don't get it....cause if a dog ate a cake i made....i would be petless from then on....hahahahahahaha
Ick, what a horrific "gift". I'm not a drama queen so I hate to stir things up but that is just gross. If this was for a friend, I'd hate to see what you do to your enemies. Its tough to be humble, but I would bet you didn't have to eat that cake. They would have appreciated it so much more had you just told them.
I hate to say it, because I live in a state where you can't sell from home...but this is exactly why those states have that rule. The few people that would do this kind of thing ruin it for the rest of us that would like to open legitimate home-based bakeries. In an actual store, at least the health department comes in and inspects every so often. Yeesh. I hope no one got sick off of it.
That is so disgusting! If she gave her friend the most important cake of her life full of doggy drool what is going to stop her from doing this to strangers. I am typing and gagging. I hope her friend finds out and she gets caught.
I think most people would NEVER serve a cake in this situation. But, just in case, let me say that it is a really dangerous thing to do. If someone that ate that cake had a dog allergy it could have been a potentially deadly reaction. I know a boy who has VERY serious reactions to dog saliva, so bad that it could kill him. PLEASE everyone, use common sense, which says not to serve a cake that has been licked by a dog. And always consider the possibilities of allergies, I don't think some people realize how serious these things can be.
"Well I decided to try my hand on a wedding cake..."
Well, this right here says it all..."she decided to TRY her hand at a wedding cake." I take it this was her first cake, which was baked in her house.
Now I see why we have health inspectors and sanitary laws!
So we can not read the original post huh?
WOW....I too thought it was a joke.
Well, I'm not a professional baker nor I sell anything...my cakes are basically for family and friends, but I would NEVER EVER give a cake (to anyone!!) that has been licked by my dog (or cat) animal's saliva have tons of bacteria...dogs/cats spend their lives licking themselves, yikes!!!
i commend you for TRYING but honestly next time throw the thing away and go and buy one or something... i have animals and when i do cakes i put a baby gate up so they cant get in... not only is it unsanitary but they could get under foot and i dont want to drop anything or injure them... disasters happen.. next time just cut your losses dont repair and pretend it didnt happen .... its for these reasons that laws were set up to protect people from conditions like these.. its disgusting and give many home bakers a bad name... you didnt get caught this time... but next time someone could call you out and then you would have some explaining to do.. keep pets out of the kitchen... i dont even let my BF in the kitchen when i am decorating
Wow, I just read this post and seriously thought it was an April's Fool Day Joke. That is plain disgusting, and inconsiderate. Besides how daring for her even post that incident. Friends like her, who needs enemies.
<...In an actual store, at least the health department comes in and inspects every so often...>
What a joke that is! They come in once a year - if that. I was working in a grocery store bakery w/the hd came...the bakery supervisor said 'Oh, you are hear early this time....I'm not ready for you" so they said they would come back the next day! And you should see what they made us do....the supervisor spray painted a piece of wood being used as a shelf **with loaves of bread still on it!!** The place had roaches running averywhere Not im my house!!!!
I didn;'t get to see the actual post - only one line is there and someone said something about the OP having deleted most of the post. Sounds like someone is wanting to stir up some fun on this board.
GROSS! Was this lady expecting sympathy?!! How could someone in good conscience serve a cake that's been licked by a dog?!
I have a dog and for a time he decided to hunt, kill and eat mice ( I know, crazy) and I wouldn't let him lick me, my son or my husband because mice carry disease. That's not to mention the cake ball licking that still takes place.
I would never leave a cake on the floor period, let alone unattended and if my dog were to climb on my counter and just so happen to lick or take a bite out of my cake, to the garbage it goes!
I am so grossed out by this person and to say that she fixed it, no one noticed and she allowed people to consume, OMG CONSUME (!) this cake like its ok makes me wonder about her.
OMG I CANT BELIEVE WHAT I JUST READ....THATS WHY I AM REALLY PICKY IN FOOD....I USSUALLY TRY TO FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE ANIMALS AND I WILL NOT EAT....UNLESS I GO TO THE PERSONS HOUSE AND SEE....I CANT BELIEVE SHE WILL DO THAT TO A FRIEND....AND LIKE SOMEONE SAID WHAT WAS SHE EXPECTING WE WERE GOING TO SAY ABOUT IT.....OHH GOOD
When I first joined this site. I was looking thru the pics and I came across a pic where the poster said her dog had eaten a hole in the middle of the cake and she repaired it. I was so disgusted by it.
My instructor told me once that her pet rabbit jumped on her cake when the client's son took the rabbit out of his hutch. Because it was the client's son who did it, she still made the client pay for it. Don't know if she served it or not.
Just a couple of weeks ago I got into a serious argument with one of my best friends. I was picking her up after taking her car in for repairs and she decided to bring her puppy along for the ride. I got so upset. I told her she should have asked me first. I transport cakes in my car and I don't even want a pet in my car. If I had a pet, I'd have two cars.
Ewwww my stomach is turning. I can't believe she stilll served it. I would have pulled an all nighter and made a new cake. If there wasn't time for that then I would have gone to the local grocery store and bought cakes and done something witih them like scrape off the frosting and put my own on and do my own decorations but NEVER serve a cake that a dog ate off of. YUCK!!
I can not believe!!!!!!!!!! she did this... I understand she may have come here for some kind of help in some way about this and we may all be jumping the gun screaming in disgust but she has infact deleted most of the post so no one else can really comment on it but from what others are repeating they read I'm totally disgusted and pissed at this.
I'm fighting right now where I live to be able to continue my business in my home. Where I live you can not be licensed in your home but you may bake for profit just can not advertise.
People like the OP are why it is so freakin hard for someone to get a leg up in this industry. I just made my very first wedding cake 2 weekends ago.
I have two cats, the bride being a family member knew this, as well as a child who was ill at the time the cake had to be made. Not only did I quarunteen my daughter to her room and only her room and wear gloves and face mask every time I went near her, but I also caged the two cats, cleaned the kitchen literally from top to bottom as well as the dining room where the cake was assembled and decorated.
At no times! are animals permitted around food. Especially not something someone else is going to be eating! WTF were you thinking!? Would you feed that dog licked cake to your own mouth or children's mouths? I sure hope not! But why would you think it would be alright to feed it to other people!? Disgusting!
The OP started a thread a few days before this thread questioning the size she should make for a 3-tier cake---so I get the sick feeling this is for real.
OMG !!!!!!!! How in good faith could she let her friend have that cake. I recently made 2 baby shower cakes for my niece and was flipping out cause of the stupid flies who had found their way into the house. I have 3 dogs and a cat, but in NO WAY are they allowed anywhere near my kitchen while I am cooking, or baking. Let alone putting the cake on the FLOOR?????? I just can't believe it. WOW!!!!!!!
I groom pets for a living.
I've been p**d on
I've been sh** on
I've been drooled on
This story still makes me want to throw up!!
