I need ideas for a Sound of Music play opening. My brother plays the uncle in the play but it will be for opening night and for the whole cast.

Some things that come to mind are:

mountains in the background
music notes
do re mi
items from the song "my favorite things"

Great, now I'm singing it! icon_rolleyes.gif Good luck and post a pic! I'd love to see what you come up with! thumbs_up.gif

If you want to go very simple, a white tiered cake with shiny blue 'ribbon' (for the blue satin sashes) could work well and not break the bank.

Another idea would be a several-tiered cake with scenes from the movie around each tier or something. (not the actual scenes, of course, but possibly like PinkPanther said... items from various songs or something)

if you're any good with figures, making the family and sitting them around the cake would be cool, too, maybe to look like the people playing in the play? icon_smile.gif

Just random thoughts...

You definitely need mountains! Maybe Maria with her guitar on the mountain. That is so exciting for your brother! I have to wait until the fall until it comes here to Toronto.

When I think of the movie/play I sing "The hills are alive..." in my head. A few 1/2 ball cakes in various sizes decorated like the hill & meadow scene from the movie.

I also love the gazebo scene with the song "Iam 16".

You could do a tiered cake with popular lyrics written on it.
I am 16 going on 17 ; So long, farewell..... ; Do a deer .. etc.. you get the point but, now I have the soundtrack playing in my head.

maybe go more with the music theme. I have a picture up which I made for a b-day at a piano bar w/music notes & piano keys... maybe something like that would be cute. Good LUck!

You could also consider making some Edelweiss, especially if you do scenes from the play.
