Hi All,
What is the best way to achieve jet black buttercream? Is it best to start with a brown base before adding the black? Thanks for your help.

Definitely start with Chocolate or brown-tinted icing. Chocolate is easiest. You'll find that you don't need very much black gel or paste color to get it a true "jet black"

hope this helps!

thanks, it does help. I was hoping that was the right answer since I was scared of all that black giving the icing a funky taste.

Another way is to keep **all colors**- your dibs and dabs of icing - on hand in one container. Keep it in the fzr if necessary. When you have say 1/3-1/2 cup stir it up well - it probably will be an ugly camo coloricon_smile.gif Now add your black paste/gel. It will take less paste and not have that awfull taste. Keep stored in fzr; will last a yr or more.

wow that sounds like a great tip, and a good use for little bits of extra icing. I'll have to remember that one, thanks!
