Royal Icing Border

I am trying hard to pipe a border using a star tip while using royal icing. Is there a recipe out there for a more stiffer icing for piping eleaborate borders? Could I use butter cream icing? Will butter cream mess up whenI place the cookiue in a cello bag?

just add more powdered sugar to the royal icing until it's the stiffness you're after
