Hi, it's 2 months away but I want to make cupcakes for my son's first birthday. I'm going to put buttercream on them and have them domed instead of flat but I need something to go on the top. I'm probably better at modelling with fondant or flowerpaste than buttercream.

Any ideas?

How about a little number 1 or elmo head. Something that goes with the theme. Sorry not much help here.

If you are just going for a 1st birthday theme you could cut out a whole bunch of differnt colored 1's out of fondant and let them dry for a few days and stick on each of the cupcakes with some really cute sprinkes on top. I don't know your theme. Let us know! We might have some even better ideas!!

I don't really have a theme as we're not having a proper party as such. It's sort of getting split between the Thursday and the Sunday. He's very much a boy but as for a theme I can't think of anything specific. I haven't decided whether to do the buttercream in pale blue or cream or a mixture of both.

Hmmmm I just don't know!
