Hello all, I am just getting into selling my cakes and was wondering how many cakes you all do in a week to make a living at it, and how long it takes you to do just an average cake. Thanks for your help!!!

Welcome to CC. I just started my business in Jan. Right now I'm doing about one a week, but it looks to pick up quickly. I need to do about 10 cakes a week to get any substantial income from it, unless I sell more wedding cakes. Then all I need is two a week!. A birthday or party cake takes me about 3 hours, not including "wait" time. Wedding cakes take substantially more time and depends on what the client wants as to how long it takes.

Hope this helps!

P.S. I grew up in Akron, Oh but I'm in NC now.

i do from 20-40 cakes a week......

the lions share are sheet cakes.

if it's a design i'm used to doing, i can do it in 15 minutes.

if it's a drawing it can take 45 minutes.

i bake and do a couple orders on wednesday and thursday....freeze the baked ones...

do about around 8 or 10 orders on friday...

ice all of saturdays orders...

and just decorate all day saturday....

to bad i don't have elves to come and clean up the mess.
