I made this and was really, really proud of it. I spent a lot of time on it trying to get the details just right. The groom said he couldn't believe how exact it was, including the medalsicon_smile.gif It got a few saves...but I really thought it would get a few more or at least a few more comments.

I enjoyed making this cake from beginning to end. I loved the pattern and couldn't wait to try it on a cake:

I have TWO cakes that i thought went really under noticed

I worked really hard on the popcorn and cutting out the logo for the bottom http://cakecentral.com/gallery/2081537

and this was my first time doing stenciling and i haven't seen anyone else do one like this! http://cakecentral.com/gallery/2096227

First of all I love your patriotic cake. You did a great job stenciling and your overall look was well thought out. The colors are great.

Now...do you want to hear what might have made it over-the-top and really noticed? I think you should have done the red bows out of gum paste instead of using pre-made bows. I think the strip of navy blue should have also been made of fondant. And your overall fondant could have been smoother...but that's a learning process that takes practice. I don't even cover cakes with fondant because I can't for one reason so I don't try!
The more a cake shows someone's skill or creativity, the more it is noticed I've discovered. You have had several cakes saved so you're obviously talented!

So hang in there! You've got the creativity for sure...the rest comes with practice. (hope you don't take this as an insult...I just think sometimes we're so close to our work we miss what others might see and a fresh perspective is helpful. I know I appreciate it). thumbs_up.gif

Thank you for the advice! thumbs_up.gif

actually, it was the bride that wanted real ribbon and real bows...I showed her multiple gumpaste bows and such and she didn't want it.

the thing about the fondant, it was 100 degrees that day and the venue was even hotter. I had a whole thread about my venting on how my cake turned into mush at the venue icon_sad.gif all through the learning experience of working in the heat of Wisconsin icon_redface.gif the cake was already melting underneath the fondant and there was nothing i could do, i was so upset. I hate covering in fondant as well.

thanks tho! it does help!

I'm just beginning with cake decorating so most of mine go unnoticed but this one I was really proud of. It was days of prep work and I was very happy with the finished product.

This one of my favorite cakes that I've ever made and nobody else seems to think much of it - finally a place to vent or show it off -lol!

Howsweet; This is an awesome cake. Really fun and sweet. I am sorry that you did not get enough lookers before, but you certainly did a fine job and deserved some kudos.

All the others did too. really fine work. I tried to post some pictures not very long back and it was not letting me and I haven't had the chance to go back and try again. maybe one of these days it will happen.

Seriously - It took me an entire day to get 1 photo uploaded, at least 1000 attempts, no exaggeration!
