I always have a problem with a "lip" on the edge of the cake when i smooth the BC. I learned by doing the sides first, then the top. Today i tried icing the top first, then the sides. Then I smoothed in the same order. No lip! I was amazed! This was a square cake; can't wait to try it on a round! I could've left it without a border, but the design needed something.
