I was wondering with all the beautiful cakes on CC has anyone ever made any pinecones from Royal or buttercream Icing?

How about from fondant or gumpaste?

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been here long, but the only ones that I have seen were done by Thanh. She made them on a stick? Said that she makes large roses the same way. Would love to learn that technique...

Good luck!

Pinecones can be made on a stick, or I use a thin straw. Make little petals and work your way down the stick in a circle. Clip off the bottom of the straw, leaving aobut 2 inches, and with your scissors stick the straw in the cake. Using a straw give the pinecone the ability to stick up off the cake. ( Be sure to worn customer of the straws in the cake.) I have used both Royal and buttercream to do this.

Hope this helps
