I am needing to make a marble cake today and can't find a mix anywhere. Can I just reserve a cup of the yellow batter and add cocoa powder to it to make it chocolate??

Yes, you can. In fact, that is how I always make my marble cakes. Just add as much or little cocoa as you like. I usually reserve about 1 1/2 C and then add the cocoa.

Hope this helps!

That's exactly what I do; I use a scratch yellow recipe, but it's the same idea. I add a splash of vanilla to the cocoa powder and yellow batter, and mix. Then swirl the chocolate batter through the yellow batter.

Voila! Marble cake.

Chocolate syrup or squares work well too.

I do a combination of cocoa powder and melted chocolate. I start with a pound cake but I'm sure yellow cake would work just as well.
