Is fondant gluten free?? I'm looking online and it seems that gluten free means that there is basically no wheat products, is this correct?

You may want to check out this link:

My family often needs to eat gluten-free because my step-daughter/grandson have celiac's disease.

Check to be sure your fondant does not contain cornstarch (unless a box of cornstarch specifically states it is gluten-free, I don't use it). Alot of products that don't contain wheat may still contain gluten (the link above has details on this). Given the small amounts of cornstarch in some fondants many celiacs won't have a problem with it, but you need to understand the gluten tolerance of the person you are baking for.
