Ok So How Did I Do?

I was asked to do a knockoff of a magazine cake for a bride which I've never done before. She wanted some modifications - her colors, plus she wanted BC not fondant.

This is my cake:

and attached is the photo from the magazine.

So besides the fact I haven't started doing the Melvira Method for smooth icing (that will soon change), and besides the fact my tiers seem to be a smidge unlevel, how did I do?

(and you can't hurt my feelings here, so any feedback will be lovingly received so long as it's lovingly presented!)

Thanks for looking!

Hey E icon_smile.gif I think you did a wonderful job!!! And your cake looks nice and smooth so I have NO clue where you are coming from there....especially not using the Melvira technique! So as far as I am concerned it looks terrific!! icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Have a wonderful night!!!

I don't think I'd call your cake a "knock off" because it looks great!

The smoothing will help make your cakes look more level. And there are some areas that need some smoothing. But honestly, you and other trained cake people will see that. I think you did a GREAT job. I like this cake. I hope they liked it too. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Just making sure you understand, the photo attached here in the thread is the one from the magazine...the one in the links is mine. So there's no confusion! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I appreciate your kind comments!
