My son's 2nd birthday party was saturday and I am so happy it is in the past! I made a 3D blues clues cake and over 300 sugar cookies. I had so many problems that I was crying before the end of Friday night! I made the cake out of 2- wonder molds, 2- 6" rounds and 2- mini wonders. I made the ears out of fondant mixed with Tylose about a week before and they were dry but When I moved them the night before the left one broke icon_evil.gif in half. I had no idea what to do and apparently thought they owuld be invinsible or I was one, because I did not even think to make extras! icon_redface.gif I tried wetting the seam and sticking them together to dry over night. Yeah that didn't work. I wound up tapeing them together right before sticking them into the cake! That actually held up pretty well, then I stuck them in the cake and the Right side wouldn't stay standing and messed up the foot, so I stuck it IN the foot to hold it! ouch.gifshhh.gif. Also when I was icing it I couldn't get the icing smooth and used several different methods including a hot knife, the roller and a viva paper towel. So then my icing lookied like it was kind of mottled in color! icon_cry.gif Then board which was two pieces of cardboard put togethr was not exactly strong enough and when I removed it from the fridge I noticed a small crack along the back of the head where it connected to the body! It will be a long time before I attempt something like that agian!

Honestly though With all the baking and decorating and getting ready for the party in general, I was less stressed this year when I did everything than last year when I ordered a cake from our incompetent bakery!

The cake and cookies are perfectly adorable! I'm so sorry you had so many problems. I'm sure everyone was just amazed by the cake and no one but you noticed the imperfections. YOU'RE not the one who is supposed to cry at a 2 year old's birthday party. icon_wink.gificon_wink.gif

You did a great job! Can't wait to see what you cook up next year! thumbs_up.gif

What a beautiful blues clues cake and cookies, I'm sure your son just loved it. For all your troubles it doesn't show in the finished product, everyone else probably didn't even notice. When someone can't decorate at all they never notice the minute flaws that the decorator does. Hopefully the 3rd birthday cake will come much easier for you. Keep on baking!!!

We are our own worst critic - I'm sorry you had problems, but something to learn from I always say.

The cake and cookies look fabulous to me, and what will matter most to you, your son, and the rest of your family is that "MOM" made the cake and cookies for the birthday party - that's all that really matters in the end. The look of joy in a child's eyes at that age is priceless.

Give yourself a pat on the back - you deserve it icon_smile.gif

Side note~~~

How much would you carge for something like this?

There is only two places in my town in which to buy cakes. A very incompetent bakery and a grocery store bakery (Piggly Wiggly!) And no one who does any kind of fondant work Our Wal-Mart doesn't even have a bakery! I think I remember a 1/2 sheet cake with a Elmo Kit on top and red, blue, and yellow, squiggly lines for my sons 1st birthday was $45. This is what made me decide that I needed to teach my self to do it! For the last year I have been making cakes for my neices and nephews and some friends, but have never been paid I have now gotten two requests for quotes and really have no idea of where to begin pricing!

SO CUTE!!! You did a wonderful job! Well done. And what a huge party - you must be exhausted! I hope you get a change to put your feet up and rest on your laurels this week. You really did a wonderful job on both the cake and the cookies!
