Calling all fondant experts.

I want to make a small cake for my sister this weekend that looks like a gift with a fondant bow. Can I put a fondant bow on top of buttercream? How far in advance can I make the bow and how do a have to store it?

Thanks,
Crystal

Go ahead and make your bow as soon as possible, that way it will have plenty of drying time.
here is one I made

It's okay to put it on BC
To get the sheen, after I cut out my pieces and before i put them toghther I brushed both side with an everclear/pearl luster dust mix, I stuffed the loops with wadded up saran wrap and I put some between the tails and the cake to give it dimension.
this particular bow was made out of gumpaste but same principle with fondant.

I would suggest that you make the loops today so that they can dry real good! You can assemble the bow the day of the party w/ candy melts. (dries super fast!) There is a picture of my "present cake" in my photo album

OH yes it's ok to put on Butter cream icing . I did!
