I have a bride whose wedding cake I am doing in December. She called me up today trying to get a quote for her friends baby shower. While talking to me about the baby shower she remembered that she wants me to do their engagement party cake. Well, it's sort of an engagement party. The party is next weekend the 27th and their wedding is at the end of December.

They are doing a costume party in honor of halloween. Costumes are to be "things that go together". The examples she gave me where:

Soccer player and soccer ball
Pimp and Prostitute icon_redface.gif
Forrest Gump and Jenny
The Adams Family

She said to think outside of the box.

She really just wants this cake for a centerpiece that some people will eat. She says she plans to not cut it up until the end. It doesn't need to serve that many, about 25. There will be about 70 or so guest but there will be a lot of other sweets there as well.

So I'm trying to think of something amazing but without too much prep work. I love doing fondant items and such. She said the budget is about $100, so think in that price range.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

THANKS A BUNCH!

What about a Bride and Groom? They go together! lol

And you could do something like a ball player's glove and ball, like she "caught" him or he "caught her.

Green eggs and ham.

Milk and cookies.

Any of the food themes could be made to look old and moldy.

Ooooh, how about a dead rat eating cheese stuck in a mouse trap. I know... disgusting, but it's Halloween. Right?

How about a cake in the shape of a caramal apple with a bite out of it and a yucky worm crawling through it.

Princess Leah and Han Solo
mickey and minnie
kermit and Miss Piggy
MR and MRS Potato Head
toothpaste and toothbrush
angel and devil

Let us know what you end up doing!

Woman: Bag of plain M&M's
Man: Bag of M&M's with nuts!

(My friends did this a few years ago - they won the contest).

My mom went as a leaf blower and my dad went as a pile of leaves.

Hmmmm, first thing that comes to my mind for a Halloween based Engagement party would be...................Electrical plug and a plug in! icon_lol.gif
One sheet cake could easily be made to look like an electrical outlet and the other cake could be made box shaped with fondant prongs coming out of the side pointing at the electrical outlet cake.

All of these are such wonderful things that go together. I was hoping to incorporate a couple or multiple of these into one cake but some how do it harmoniously. Any ideas??? I really do love all the ideas so far.

Thanks a bunch!

I really like the bride and groom theme but done as famous characters.

I think Miss Piggy and Kermit would be easy to mold and can be put on top of a simple round cake. Maybe they could even be in bridal attire.

How about:

Ball and chain (cheesy I know, but it would get a laugh) Wouldn't be hard, you could use a soccor ball pan, frost it black and make links from foundant, could be cute.

Hotdog and bun

king and queen

Whoever their favorite characters are ( ie. Mickey and Minney...)

also since it is Halloween you could do Frankinstein and his bride! Good luck, you'll have to share what you decided to do.

Ok - First thing that came to mind for me is the Grease song "we go together." Of course, they go together like rama lama lama
ke ding a de dinga a dong..which doesnt' help much. But maybe you could do a 50's sort of motif and write "we go together like...." then incorporate a bunch of the famous couples of pairs of things.

Hotdog and bun king and queen

I can easily see all of this going together. A ball cake maybe on grass (sheet cake?) w/the hotdog/bun on the grass and a king & queen on top of the ball or on the grass also.

I like jnoel's idea. I also like the M&M's and popcorn to eat, but I don't know that everyone would "get" it.

How about you make it like a quilt cake. Each square of a difft fall fondant color would have a difft. 2 things that go together.

Your saying could be ......Bride name and Groom name go together like.....(then have your items). or you could do the same thing on a round like a pie chart.
