I just had my best customer call and order a birthday cake. She said, "I've seen lots of celebrity cakes lately with red gel icing and really scripty writing." WHAT? Does anyone have any idea what she's talking about? Any links to pics like that? I've tried searching on the internet and come up empty so far. THANKS!!!
That description could mean so many things. To her it may be something completey different than what cake decorators would call it.
I would tell her you need some pictures to see what she is talking about.
Sorry i can't think of anything off hand, expecially "celebrity cakes" is such a wide range of things. Did the cakes belong to a celebrity? or was it a celebrity decorator?
It was for a celebrity's birthday. . . She's pretty easy to please, so I'm not concerned with her not liking it, but I am dying for a picture!
When I saw the "red gel writing" all I could think of was super market sheet cakes with writing in coloured piping gel. Not quite the celebrity cake she is thinking of I am sure.
I'm thinking it's maybe chocolate or royal icing and she doesn't know the difference. I'm looking on hollywoodbirthday.com right now hoping for some inspiration!!
I was thinking the same thing. Those God awful tubes you get at the grocery store. I'm sure she was thinking something else.
I just emailed her this link to see if this is maybe what she's talking about?

I remembered this cake and she has wonderful writing/piping skills. I think it's kinda "scripty." Looks like regular icing. Check out her other cakes, too.
