Peanut Butter Balls

I made up a double batch of these tonight. I was wondering if I can freeze them before I dip them. Also how long can I freeze them for?

I want to make about two dozen from this batch to take somewhere this week, but I was wanting to save the rest for a later time. Didn't know if this was possible, i'm sure it is, just not sure for how long before it will start to effect them.

What are they made of? Most truffle and bon bon type thingies freeze very well. So long as they are not dipped before freezing.

The recipe I am usuing is only 3 ingredients. Peanut butter, Butter, and powdered sugar.

My MIL makes buckeyes and bon-bons every Christmas and she freezes them. Even after they are dipped. There is never a problem with them...?

BTW - where did you get the recipe? Sounds yummy! icon_biggrin.gif

I got the recipe out of my favorite cook book. The Better Homes & Gardens (the red and white version). It is a soft cover they put out about 4 years ago. It actually has some recipes in it that I haven't found in their Hard back books. I recently bought their 75th Ann. addition and it didn't have a couple of my favorite desert recipes in there, I was surprised.

It is a very fast recipe, A double batch (about 60) took me an hour to do. That is drying time of peanut butter included, but it took all night for the chocolate to harden up with the humidity here.

PB Balls (Dbl Batch=60)   
  1 C PB
  6 T Butter
  2 C Powd. Sugar
  16 oz. Chocolate

I hope you enjoy it. The ones that have tried them sure do, except my BF and I. We don't eat a lot of chocolate. So next time I am going to try chopping up peanuts and rolling the peanut butter balls in them. I think it will be more to our liking. But I still have to do the chocolate ones for our families.

Thanks for the recipe. i'll have to check, but the recipe sounds a lot like buckeyes! My MIL has her own version, though. She puts rice crispies in the pb mixture - YUM-MY!!!

From an Ohioan (the Buckeye State) yup-that is a buckeye. To distintly make it a buckeye when you dip you leave a portion of the peanut butter exposed in the center for the nut "cap" or whatever it is called lol! Definitely freezeable.

The only thing with freezing dipped chocolates is sometimes it will get a slight "filmy" appearance when you thaw. But it is far more obvious when you are doing like solid chocolate pieces. But the balls themselves should freeze fine. And serving in petit four cups makes any kind of truffle-ish thing look very elegant and professional.

You could roll in chopped peanuts. Or if you really like peanut butter, try finely chopping to almost shave consistency peanut butter chips. Or just roll in powdered sugar or cocoa. Or graham crumbs or wafer crumbs. Or even sugar cookie crumbs.

And of course they are calorie free once frozen. thumbs_up.gif

HI Pooker! I am near Cleveland. Parma/North Royalton-area to be precise. I work in downtown Cleveland. Wonder how many others here are nearby? Since I am new here I really havent a clue.

I make these every year at Christmas time ... I've froze both ways.. dipped and undipped .. I single layer mine until they're frozen and then after frozen, you can stack on top of one another .. after they're dipped, and they have dried, you can layer on top of one another .. I put wax paper between the layers so they don't stick ..

I make these and millionaires (caramel/pecan dipped in chocolate) every year around the holidays.. one year I didn't make them and I'd wish you'd heard everyone complain! lol

ivanabacowboy I love the idea of Sugar Cookie crumbs (although I am not sure I have ever seen those around our house either) That is definitely another favorite in our house. Thanks for the great Idea! Maybe next time i'll do a variety batch. I love how fast these came together. And if I can freeze them.... oh listen to me, I am already planning for christmas! I have a feeling it's going to be a big one this year. icon_wink.gif

Leily-crumbs are about all I usually have around my house lol! I have a son who will be 18 in January. And he can put it away. Luckily he inherited my sweet tooth so I have a willing victim for all my cakes and pastries. LOL!

Tammy: I go to Medina frequently. Other than baking and working I have one addiction: Root Candles. Which I presume if you live in Medina you know about Root Candles. I try to get out there every couple weeks. A couple weeks ago my aunt and I actually did Miss Molly's Tea Room lol! I will pm you later. I hope maybe we can all get together.

And PS: I started working on my holiday baking list TODAY lol! Time flies.

As long as the PB Balls are in an air-tight container, they will be fine. Or just saran Wrap them really well and then put them in a tupperware. I do this every christmas. And it works out great!
