Edible Images will last as long as the cake does. They are very durable and can be refrigerated or frozen on the cake or left at room temperature. The colors won't bleed or change in any way. This link will take you the the FAQ on Edible Images.

The only problem that I have had with my edible images is the edges tend to curl up a bit if done too soon so I always put a border of sort around them.

the only time I have had problems with edible images is on bEttercreme icing. There is so much moisture that after 3-4 days the image will start to bleed depending on how it was done.
