I was asked to make a groom's cake for the same wedding I posted an earlier question to. The cake consists of a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. The top of the cake is to have a cowboy lasso surrounding a few chocolate dipped strawberrries. How can I make the edible lasso?

I think I would make three LOOOOOONG pieces of fond/gumpaste with a clay gun and then twist them together. use this to form a circle the size you need then I would let it dry off the cake. When dry or mostly so I would set it in place and then do more 'rope' for the rest of the lasso(knot and loose rope).

i would suggest a mix of gumpaste WITH tylose powder (it will help it to dry harder and faster). i like the suggestion by martha about the strands twisted together. i actually think it would be wise to have a wire skeleton too...its better to be safe than sorry and have it break at the last moment. i would make this at least a week in advance, maybe a back up one or two just in case.
