My daughter's birthday party is Saturday and I'm wondering if I can make the buttercream ahead of time (today) and how it should be stored.

Also, if I decorate the cake on Friday--does the cake have to go in the fridge overnight for a Saturday afternoon party? Would I be better off if I just decorated on Saturday?

Yes, you can make it ahead of time - just store it in the fridge until you need it. Then before you use it, bring it to room temp & re-whip.

If you ice it on Fri, it will be fine for Sat. From what I recall it can be out for 24-48 hours & still be fine!
