I am doing a fondant-covered three-tier wedding cake this weekend and will be using wooden dowels to support the tiers. I was just wondering--when I put the dowels in, do I need to hollow out a space for the dowel first...or can I just shove it on in the cake?

I don't make holes, just push them in.

I'd be afraid if you hollowed out places they'd shift around. By sticking them straight in they stay put. thumbs_up.gif

How do you all make sure that the fondant doesn't shift with the pushing in of the dowels?
