What sizes are the cakes? It looks like the bottom cake is not as tall as the other tiers. You may say it serves 100, but I might have a different serving size than you is why I am asking what sizes the cakes are. Then I can give you an estimate for how much I would charge. But you will need to take into consideration the prices in your also.

well i hear...the wedding cakes are supossed to be 4inch tall each tier at least that is what i told her
she wants this cake design for 100 people
so looking at the charts of servings
a 10"
8"
6"
will be for 100people
the one on top wont count they will keep it and freze it for their aniversary
so it will have 4 tiers like this one
now the flowers how you guys do that?
you charge it separate right?

leily Posted 19 Sep 2007 , 10:54pm

Ok then for a 10", 8" , and 6" my price would be $300 with only a buttercream filling.
If they wanted one layer of filling my price would be $350.
If they wanted the two layers of cake torted so there were three layers of filling my price would be $475

These prices do not include the flowers. I do not make flowers yet so I would take the price that I would pay plus 15% and charge them this cost.

This price also does not include delivery.

I don't mean to burst the bubble here, but it you do a 10/8/6, it will NOT look like the cake in the picture. You won't have enough room to place your flowers. Those tiers are either 3 to 4 inches difference, so you would want something more like a 12/9/6, or even a 14/10/6. Sorry. If you look at cakes in the gallery, you'll see what I mean. The ones that only have 2" difference in tier size look more 'tower' shaped. The ones w/ 3 to 4" difference look more like the one in your picture. I hope that makes sense.

arosstx-you beat me to it! lol! I was sitting here thinking the same thing! You could go with a 6/10/14 (round) combo and get 110 serves. I say a 6/9/12 (round) serves about 92.

Does the bride want the square on the bottom?

It's also important when pricing out your cakes that you go per serving and if you notice above, you probably won't ever hit the exact # the bride is looking for so they have to decide if they want slightly less or slightly more but they still pay for all the serves they get! And I charge for the top tier. Some don't but I can't afford to give away 10 servings. Like dh said "is someone going to eat it? Well, then charge for it".

Very important to price out your ingredients, supplies, etc so you know how much you are spending to know how much you need to charge and look at the prices your area will support.

Good luck with it! It's a beautiful design!

Just make sure you put everything in writing. Have her initial and date a sketch of the final design. earlenescakes.com has a sample contract that you can alter to suit your needs. It's a great starting place to make your own contract and it helps to keep you from forgetting the small details.

can you guys help figuring out the size of the tiers?
the one on the botton looks is like a 2" then the one in top 3"? 4"?
the one in top of that one looks taller right?
im almost finish with the flowers... those daisies are killing me....hard to make with the cutter i have....
icon_cry.gif
but almost done.....
the green on the leaves hmmmm icon_confused.gif i wonder what green to use...it looks like the add a little of brown dust right? after it was dry .... ?
any help???
please?/?/?

Imo it looks like the bottom is 2",2nd and 3rd are 4" and top is 3".
It is a beautiful cake. I don't think the top is taller than the second and third one. I am not sure which green that it is unless its like a moss green or maybe a lighter olive green. take a breather, everything will work out just fine.... I can't wait to see the picture so make sure you post it. thumbs_up.gif

Are you doing the tiers square? If so you really only need 3 tiers to feed 100. A 4/8/12 combo-square,saving the top tier will give you 104 serves. If she wants the 4 tiers you could make a dummy for the bottom.

THESUGARCOW Posted 4 Oct 2007 , 7:48pm

hmmmm icon_confused.gif
i have been looking and looking at the picture....
starting from the botton going up...
the first one i give a 2" tier
second a3 1/2" maybe?
third a 4" 1/2
the one on the top i think is a 4 "
??????????/
i think that is why it looks like a french tower .. icon_confused.gif kind of thing....
i think if i make it like that will look like that? icon_eek.gif
cause if you see the second and 3rd tier
the 3rd looks taller than 2?
and second looks the same as the one on top?
icon_confused.gif
i know....it is more servings but i want to make that cake....
i give free cakes sometimes...well why not free cake...
when the person is trusting me her cake knowing im a newbie? icon_eek.gif
and that way i have a first wedding cake...that i hope looks a litle bit like this one....
so far i think it wont look bad
the only thing she wants it ivory with the yellow of the flowers more like autumn colors
so i hope! it looks good...
i think I trust my self.. i think.... icon_confused.gif

The bottom tier is def on a single layer. For that layer, I would torte and fill with bc. The other tiers look the standard 4in height. I think it's just the camera angle that's making you think they are different. I'll tell ya' I don't measure my final tier heights so I'm sure they could be off by 1/2in or so but I can't ever really tell in the final product. Don't worry yourself crazy over something like that. Just make them the standard size except for the bottom tier.
