I want to make some fondant roses for anniversay cake i am doing for my brother and sister-in-law and in their original wedding cake, they are these beautiful roses that were a very deep red -- not wine or burgundy --it was more of a blood red. I am wondering if someone can tell me how i can achieve that deep red color for some fondant roses that i am making. . . thanks to everyone. . .
I would make my own fondant and color it that way. Other wise it will take for ever to color. Use Americolor red from CC to get the red you want.
I actually asked a very similar question not long ago and I coloured my flower paste with ruby red colouring, then dusted with ruby dusting powder mixed with a little aubergine and got this lovely deep redish black colour. Just keep dusting til you get the deepness you require.

Go to www.earlenescakes.com, she has a red paste color that she uses specifically for the dark burgundy red gumpaste roses and when you order it she sends instructions on how she used it.
The best hint on making deep red roses is one I got from Sue McMahon of England. You may have seen her do this on one of the Food Network cake challenges. She mixes Super Red airbrush color with Everclear in a deep glass or cup, holds the finished rose by the wired stem and dips them into the mixture, twirl above the glass or over the sink to remove the excess color and then stick the stem into a block of styrofoam to dry. They take about 2 days to really dry completely, they will be shiny, but that dulls after awhile. They are the deepest red I've been able to achieve. These were made with white gumpaste, but I think fondant would work as well as long as the flowers are completely dry before dipping.

Wow!! Those are gorgeous!!! What brand was the ruby colored paste? And the ruby and the aubergine dusts were petal dusts?
I used white flower paste (gumpaste) and coloured it with Sugarflair Ruby paste. The Ruby and Aubergine are both petal dusts by Edible Art. The aubergine helped to get the depth of colour needed.
Oh and thanks for the compliment on the Roses. Hopefully they wil look even more fab when I put them on the cake in a couple of weeks!!
Okay - so you dyed them with the Ruby paste and then dusted with the ruby and aubergine petal dust. . . did you mix the dusts together and then brush the rose? I am sorry for all the questions or my denseness, but I just want to get it right

I brushed the roses with ruby dust first, then did a gentle sweep with the aubergine which made it darker. Then put some of each dust on a paper towel and dipped my brush into the ruby, dabbed it onto the paper so it spreads then a dab of aubergine on the same spot. Brush on gently til you get the required effect, of course you can use more or less of the colours as you want.
