I'm doing 2 cakes.

First is a funky 4 tier stacked cake with electric blue bottom, with each tier lighter, to a white layer on top. It will have heards circles and daisies. Any suggestions????

Also - doing the grooms cake. It is a "head table" complete with wedding party, cutlery, plates, etc.

any ideas for a cake board for this too????

Will be starting cakes Monday and leaving for wedding on Friday morning.

If you have access to a jig saw the possibilities are endless!!!!!!!!!!!
as far as shape? or different material? what are you looking for. Make a daisy painted cake board, What is the grooms cake going to look like? Use a mirror if you can.
One lady said she used wrapping paper and clear contact paper so the design would show through.
Hope you find the look you want. Good luck

You could cover the board with fondant...I did one cake with daisies. I just covered the board with fondant and airbrushed it to match the bottom tier and then placed daisies on it. I did another cake where I covered the board with fondant and then cut circles out of it and replaced the cutouts with different colored circles...If it doesn't make sense, you can look here to see both cakes... http://www.cakeartbytami.com/latestart

When you cover boards with fondant, you have to do it ahead of time so the fondant firms up...I think I did my boards 4-5 days ahead of time. That might me cutting it too close for you.

Good luck!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thats it!

You hit the nail on the head with your "circles" board. Thanks a million!
BYW - fantastic job. If mine turns out half as nice I'll be happy.

Now to figure out what to do with the head table cake!!!!!!!

For your table cake maybe you could find some fabric or paper that looks like a rug. If you use paper, cover with contact paper. That way the table will be on the rug, or you could use fondant and make it look like a tile floor by making grout lines all over . If you use fabric place the cake on a board or cut a piece of contact paper. This will leep the fabric from absorbing the grease from the cake.

Thanks, Tirby.. I really love all aspects of decorating, but if I had to choose, I would have to say making gumpaste flowers is my favorite thing to do.. I love the challenge of making them look as real as possible.

As far as recipes go, I basically use doctored mixes.... I've never had a complaint yet!! icon_biggrin.gif
