Decorating Cheese Cakes Elegantly

I've heard about people who decorate cheese cakes for weddings. I think I've even seen some online somewhere. Does anyone know what is used for the frosting? Can you use fondant or MMF on a cheesecake or is is too moist to cover?
When I ice a cheesecake, I use a cream cheese icing and it blends well the flavor of the cheesecake. I haven't ever tried anything else. Hope this helps.
Cheesecakes are actually not cakes at all but custards cooked. MMF and fondant would collapse on the delicate structure of a cheesecake. Most are covered with various toppings such as cherries, whipped creme etc... Go here and look at what they have: http://www.cheesecake-recipes.com

Mmmm, not really, custards don't have cheese as one of their main ingredients!
However, cheesecake is not really cake....
Contrary to what its name suggests, cheesecakes are actually more like custards and are required to be baked at lower temperatures.

How do they do this? Is it modelling chocolate?
I"ve never done it, but in the Cake Bible, Rose decorates a cheesecake with something like IMBC.
Hello,
Yes, I have successfully covered a cheesecake with MMF. First I covered the cheesecake with ganache, then MMF. Called it a S'Mores Cheesecake!
Check it out in my photos.
Thanks Roxanne -
That's exactly what I needed to know and it looks lovely on your photo. By the way - your cakes are beautiful! I'm so happy to join this website with such talented cake artists!
There is not one reason that you could not just use buttercream frosting to ice a single or even double layer of cheesecake. I have successfully decorated several layered cheesecake cakes and even added a filling...with my "dam" consisting of extra thick buttercream so that it is structurely sound. If you wish to cover with fondant, that can be easily accomplished after adding a layer of buttercream.
