I made my own very large fondant rolling pin for under $5. I went to Home Depot and bought 36" of PVC pipe in a diameter a little smaller than a regular rolling pin. Then I bought PVC caps for each end that just happen to be the right depth for the thickness you want your fondant to be. The really cool thing about the PVC is that is ended up being non-stick. Thought I would share this since it ended up working out so well for me. Since you can have the PVC cut at the store to whatever size you want, you can make it as small or large as you want. I can roll Fondant up to 32" round this this thing. Hope this is helpful to others.

Sounds fantastic--as a brand-newbie I'm all for "cost efficient" ways to get started!

could you put waxed paper or plastic wrap between the fondant and the pvc roller 'just in case'?

Yes - PVC is food safe. PVC is used in plumbing for a lot of newer homes - your tap water comes through it. Its a ton cheaper than copper.

There are two kinds of PVC pipe, one for in and one for out.
