(I know this may seem like a silly question) I have all these yellow box mixes and I don't want to waist! Can I add cocoa to them to make them chocolate? How much do I add if I can?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would think so. You may have to add a little more liquid to compensate for adding additional dry ingredients.
I know if you add a little oil to cocoa, it is like melting a square of bakers chocolate. And if you make a marble cake, you add that "melted" chocolate to some of the yellow cake mix to flavor it, then swirl it in.
I would try 1/4 cup cocoa + 1T oil to start with and increase from there.

Cocoa is easy to work with. Take a little of the yellow cake mix and mix 1tbsp of cocoa at a time to get the result you want. You can add almost anything to a box mix and have it turn out great. Some modifications do need to occur to the box mix for the right result.

OK...so basically I can add the cocoa but, I should probably add more oil! I think I kinda knew that but, I am glad I asked! I am going to try that!

Thanks guys!

I use yellow cake mixes for just about anything from Almond Joy cake to Zucchini cake. Check out the following links to sites for cake mix recipes-there is a ton out there and it's kind of fun to experiment.

You can also make a number of different bar goodies, my favorite being Lil' Debbies which is one of the most versatile. I like using yellow cake mix with chocolate chips but you can use whatever flavor you like best. The possiblilties are endless.
Lil' Debbies
1 stick melted butter
1 box cake mix any flavor
1 bag Chips-any flavor
1 can sweetened condensed milk

Mix all ingredients & pour into 13 x9 pan. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. If you desire a cake like consistancy, add 1 egg.

Good luck using all those mixes and have fun

Wow! Thanks for those sites!

I did add the cocoa to the cake mix and I liked it a whole lot better than the devil's food box mix!
Thanks for the advice everyone!
